Crows forward Taylor Walker has penned an article about teammate and captain Rory Sloane for the AFL Players Association.
In Walker's own words:
From the moment you meet Rory Sloane, you just love him.
From his Goldilocks hair, to rosy red cheeks, and with a thirst for hard work, he’s been an integral part of the Adelaide Football Club.
We’re best mates and have been lucky to play close to 200 games of football together.
We’ve had the opportunity to co-captain the club, experience memorable wins and some losses, which weren’t as enjoyable, but, above all, we’ve been by each other’s side throughout the journey.
Now he’s about to play 200 games and, let me tell you, he’s developed significantly along the way.
As a leader he has a hard edge and delivers strong feedback based on the relationship he has with players.
Sloaney has worked hard at developing those relationships and fostering an environment where feedback can be shared and respect is earned.
Being from Melbourne, the go-home factor can be significant but Sloaney is loyal, passionate and driven by relationships.
Not for one second did I ever think he’d leave. We love him here too much.
We’ve both been through challenging times on and off-the-field.
In those moments, Sloaney put everything into perspective.
He has the ability to always find enjoyment in everything – whether it’s the happy things we get to do when things aren’t going our way or managing the more challenging times.
Football and life has brought us closer.
Rory lifts the energy around the club, sending off positive vibes and endorphins so you always enjoy being around him.
He’s all about his family. His wife, Belinda, son, Sonny, and his parents and siblings back home in Victoria.
To sum him up, he’s a loving, loyal fella.
Good luck in your 200th game!
