Each day seems to be presenting a fresh challenge in what is already a difficult time and I want to update you as often as possible with what is going on at the Club.

I am sure you will agree that the number one priority has to be to reduce the spread of the coronavirus within the community and we continue to take precautionary steps inside our organisation and are supportive of any other decision or initiative which helps the cause.

Late today the AFL announced this season would be played over 17 rounds and we support the rationale behind the decision. In recent years many people have been calling for teams to only play each other once and now we could get to see that unfold, albeit under the most trying and unfortunate circumstances. However, we also recognise the situation is ever-evolving and things may change again in coming days, weeks and months.

The State League competitions across the country have also delayed starts to their respective seasons and this obviously impacts our SANFL team which at this stage won’t start until May 31. Once again, this decision has been made for the right reasons.

At this stage, we have not yet had a player, coach or football department staff member needing to go into isolation but we must be proactive. We have also increased our precautionary measures and closed our front reception, as well as the café, to the public for the foreseeable future. Our administration staff are largely working remotely from the Club, while the players will also train in smaller groups rather than as a whole squad.

Our member services team are still in the office to take any calls and answer any of your queries. Some of your questions are difficult to answer in this constantly changing environment, where any statement or media release can be quickly superseded, and I ask you to be patient while we work our way through a long list of issues.

We are committed to making sure you are across the team’s preparation for Saturday's Round One game against Sydney and as such will live stream Tuesday morning’s training session. Keep an eye on the Club’s social media channels for details on this and other initiatives as we continue to look for new and engaging ways to keep you informed and entertained throughout the season.

Finally and most importantly, please stay safe, look after each other and remember that We Fly As One!

Cheers,
Fages
