Crows 200-gamer Nathan Bassett has guided Norwood to the SANFL premiership in his third season of senior coaching.

And young Crow Luke Brown was one of Norwood’s stars in the 49-point win over West Adelaide in front of 29,661 fans at AAMIU Stadium on Sunday.

Final scores were Norwood 12. 7 (79) defeating West Adelaide 3. 12 (30).
Brown, who played his first three AFL games for the Crows this year, collected 26 possessions in an impressive performance.

Former Adelaide players James Gallagher and Luke Jericho also enjoyed the premiership success, the first for Norwood since 1997. The Crows influence continued off the field, through assistant coach Andrew McLeod and football manager Mark Ross.

“It is good to finally be here,” said Bassett, who played 210 games with Adelaide before retiring in 2008.

“I’m rapt the way they played, especially in the second half.”

It was not a great day for West Adelaide’s Crows. Rookie Rory Laird was squeezed out of the grand final team and Brad Crouch had to work hard for 12 possessions. Former Crow Chris Schmidt was among its best.

Mitch Grigg was Norwood’s biggest ball-winner in its seven-point reserves grand final loss to Central District. Grigg, claimed by the Crows last year with pick 41 at the national draft, had 24 disposals and eight clearances.
