Crows defender Rory Laird has heaped praise on Adelaide’s new recruits two weeks into 2020 pre-season training.
The 26-year-old told AFC Media the new arrivals have made a “seamless transition” into the playing group, with a particular emphasis on the new defenders.

One player who caught Laird’s eye was top Crows draft pick Fischer McAsey.
“He’s great, he wants to learn a lot,” Laird said.
“He has spent a lot of time with Daniel Talia and Kyle Hartigan, just picking up little cues and stuff where he can.
“He’s got really good hands and is very skilled for a big man.”

Beyond McAsey, Laird had also spent time working with Josh Worrell in defensive drills.
“I’ve worked closer with Fischer and Josh Worrell, down back... I’ve seen a little bit more of those guys,” Laird said.
“But all of them (the new players) have come in really easily.”
Looking ahead to the AFL season, Laird said he had three priority goals: Perform at a high standard, execute new coach Matthew Nicks’ plan and embrace his new teammates.
“I think a lot of guys want to figure out the coach’s plan and put it into execution against other teams,” Laird said.
“For me, it’s the same this year, be able to consistently perform at a high level.
“Now that I’ve been here a while, hopefully I can help guide a few of the young guys, (especially) the backs that have come in.
“Mostly it’s about consistently performing at the level.”
Earlier this month, Adelaide announced its leadership group for the 2020 season at the annual Crows Fan Fair.
Although he was not included, Laird said it was important for all players to set an example.
“I think there is always an onus on players in my age bracket on game day to help other teammates out,” Laird said.
“It’s something I think I do well on game day… it might be more off field stuff I need to keep improving on.”
