During Adelaide’s trial match with GWS on Saturday, experienced midfielder Sophie Li was blown away by the side’s newest additions.
All eight 2019 Crows draftees played their first game at Richmond Oval and none were overawed by the occasion.
Jaimi Tabb and Nicole Campbell were particularly good in the back half, but it was another draftee that stood out to Li.
“They are all so skilled and the level of talent they have for such a young age is incredible,” Li said.
“Maddi Newman in particular, I played with her on the wing and I just wanted to stop playing and watch her kick because it is so good.
“All of the girls bring their own strengths and it is great watching them develop and grow and being part of that.”

After spending the majority of the 2019 season on the wing, Li played a half in the midfield against GWS and had a big impact.
Li wasn’t the only one to get exposure in a different position, with Ailish Considine moving between the backline and the midfield, Chelsea Biddell swapping ends and Caitlin Gould playing ruck and defence.
Looking ahead to the season, Li felt versatility would be key for the Crows.
“I think that is what makes our squad so strong, that we have girls that can play anywhere and we have flexibility and depth – it’s one of our main strengths,” Li said.
“It was really fun having a run in the midfield, it’s a role I am comfortable in having played there in local league and SANFL.
“It was nice to try something different and get a bit more of the footy.”
Li and her teammates are travelling to Perth this Friday for a camp and to play another trial match against Fremantle on Saturday afternoon.
More details about the match will be available later in the week.
