ADELAIDE ruckman Sam Jacobs has urged teammate Josh Jenkins to help him handle Port Adelaide's star ruck combination of Matthew Lobbe and Patrick Ryder in Sunday's Showdown.
Lobbe returned for the Power on Saturday night against Hawthorn to great effect, allowing Ryder to push forward – he finished as one of the club's best players.
Jacobs has long starred as the Crows' clear No.1 ruckman but against the Power's damaging duo he predicted Jenkins would have to increase his time in the ruck.
"They were both imposing on their own, let alone put together," Jacobs said of Lobbe and Ryder.
"I'm getting great support from [Jenkins] this year, I feel his ruckwork's really improved and he's really damaging around the ground now when he's in the ruck.
"His percentage of time in the ruck will go up more and more, because you can't go it on your own against two quality players.
"I'll probably see him doing a little bit more."
Jacobs said maintaining pressure on Port's defence and midfield would be crucial to negating Ryder when he spends time in attack.
The former Bomber’s incredible athleticism makes him a fearsome opponent for any defender.
As well as Ryder, though, the Power can turn to Jay Schulz or Justin Westhoff as other key targets, while a plethora of smaller forwards are also capable of hitting the scoreboard.
"We won't get caught worrying about just Ryder - Schulz is obviously a [threat] … and Westhoff's been a great player for them for a long time," Jacobs said.
"They've got a lot of options and with their small half-forwards as well … it's a pretty imposing forward line."
Adelaide will spend Monday reviewing Sunday night's loss to the Western Bulldogs.
Coach Phil Walsh said his players would be forced to jump off the Glenelg Jetty if they lost the ground ball differential to the Bulldogs, which they did.
But Jacobs was extremely coy on whether the players did take a dip, refusing to give a straight answer.
