Douglas: Heat is on for spots
Crows midfielder Richard Douglas expects there to be some disappointed team-mates when the team is picked for the opening round of the season.
Crows midfielder Richard Douglas expects there to be some disappointed team-mates when the team is picked for the opening round of the season.
The 2010 club champion, speaking to media after the Farmers Union members day, said the pressure for positions in the 22 was a great way to finish a long pre-season campaign.
Kurt Tippett, Ricky Henderson, Brodie Martin, Jared Petrenko and Sam Jacobs are among the Crows who did not play in the last NAB Challenge game against Richmond on Friday, when Adelaide used 25 players in the 68-point win.
“ It’s a good position to be in, Douglas said. “A lot of clubs would love to be in that position, it’s a real strength of the group. I’m glad I don’t have Craigy’s job of selecting the team for round one, because it’s going to be very tough. It’s just tough for spots.”
About 2000 Crows members attended Sunday’s members day at AAMI Stadium. Children enjoyed the rides out on Max Basheer Reserve but the players were the main attraction, with fans making the most of the chance to collect some autographs.
More than 40 lucky members also were chosen to hand out the 2011 guernseys to the playing squad.
“It’s an exciting day, not just for the members but for us as well, we get a buzz out of it,” Douglas said. “It was great to see so many turn out and a lot of new members as well. They are looking for to round one as we are, so it’s going to be a good year ahead.”
