Taylor Walker’s kindness towards mascot, Satine Cahill, atAdelaide Oval on Sunday has gone viral.
Satine and her family, from Hayborough near Victor Harbor, won tickets to the Club’s season-opener against North Melbourne through their connection with the Adelaide Crows Fleurieu Supporters Group. Thanks to Bendigo Bank, Satine was also given the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to run out onto the field with the team as mascot for the day.
The blonde-haired seven-year-old was waiting in the players race when she became overawed by fireworks and the enormous noise erupting in the stadium packed with nearly 47,000 fans.
Walker, who was about to lead the team out for the first time as captain, stopped to comfort the nervous schoolgirl as did Crows staffer Kelly Modra, who was also pictured in the race with Satine.
Satine revealed that another Crow, Patrick Dangerfield, also helped put her at ease.
"Patrick Dangerfield said that Taylor Walker had big ears," Satine told the Victor Harbor Times.
The joke helped to settle Satine’s nerves and she walked out onto Adelaide Oval hand in hand with Walker.
"It was exciting and a little bit scary," she said afterwards.
The image of ‘Tex’ comforting the teary girl in pig-tails as the players prepared to enter the arena was captured by News Limited photographers and quickly spread via social media.
The heart-warming story made its way into Womans Day online, The Bleacher Report and was the top story on entertainment, social networking, and news website Reddit on Wednesday night. It was also tweeted by social media news provider 'Mashable', which has in excess of 5 million followers.
It was news to the world, but for us it was just a (very public!) example of Tex being Tex.
