Taylor Walker’s first question to golf star Adam Scott was simple but effective: “How did it feel to be the first Crows fan to win the US Masters?”
Scott, the world’s No 2 golfer, handles media questions almost on a daily basis but this one from Adelaide’s popular forward immediately made him smile.
In Melbourne to defend his Australian Masters title, Scott may not have seen a live football game for nearly a decade but he remains a proud Crows Ambassador.
"They're my team - my only real team anywhere in the world," said Scott, who was born in Adelaide before moving to Queensland at the age of eight.
Walker and Brent Reilly met Scott for the first time on Wednesday, when Walker interviewed the Masters Champion for Channel Crow and the AFL website.
The starstruck Crows presented Scott with a signed Crows jumper and scarf and then followed his opening round on Thursday at Royal Melbourne.
Scott, who tipped a return to the top eight for the Crows next season, admitted he struggled to follow the Crows games because of his schedule.
Crows No 1 ticketholder Lleyton Hewitt – a neighbour of Scott’s in the Bahamas – helps him keep in touch.
"Lleyton rings me most days they play to tell me what's happened if I haven't been able to watch (while) at a tournament," Scott said.
"I try to stay on top of things. Last time I watched a live AFL game was eight years ago, but hopefully later on I'll have time to watch a lot more.”
Reilly, who plays off a handicap of seven at Kooyonga, recalled the excitement at the Club when Scott won the Masters in April.
"We stopped training to watch,” he said. “Most of the boys were crowded around to watch that last couple of holes and the club went nuts when he made that putt (to win the play-off)," Reilly said.
"We were all jumping for joy, it's really hard to describe the feeling through that connection with the footy club … just an awesome feeling."
Walker’s exclusive interview with Scott will be released soon on afl.com.au and afc.com.au
