Captain Nathan van Berlo says the Crows are ready for their “biggest test” of the season so far against premiership fancies Hawthorn at the MCG on Sunday.
Adelaide continued its dream start to 2012 on Saturday night, grinding out a hard-fought three-goal win against the Western Bulldogs at AAMI Stadium.
The spirited victory followed the Club’s 69-point demolition of second-year team, Gold Coast in round one.
While pleased with his team’s positive start to the season, van Berlo said the clash with the in-form Hawks on their home soil presented the Crows with a greater challenge.
“It’s going to be the biggest test of the year so far,” van Berlo told afc.com.au.
“But we’re in good form and are playing winning footy, so we’ll certainly go into the game with some confidence.
“An away win against Hawthorn would be a great way to continue our solid start to the season.”
Adelaide will be without midfielder Richard Douglas for the match against Hawthorn.
Douglas injured his hamstring in the first quarter of the Club’s win over the Dogs, and is likely to miss two matches.
Rick Henderson received a “stinger” in the same (shoulder/sternum) region as the knock he sustained against the Suns in the season-opener, but was able to play out Saturday night’s game and isn’t considered in any doubt for the clash with the Hawks.
Sunday’s match will be the first of only two games at the MCG for Adelaide.
Midfielder Scott Thompson, who celebrated his 200th AFL game in the win over the Dogs, said the players were looking forward to playing at the venue regarded as the home of Australian Football.
“We don’t get to go over and play at the ‘G’ too often,” Thompson said.
“It’ll be good to get over there. The Hawks are up and about. We know how much talent they have across the park and they are mature, strong bodies.
“It’s definitely a game we’re looking forward to, to go over there and see how we match up against them. We’ve had a great start. We’re 2-0 and it would be great to be 3-0, but we’ll have a look at the Hawks during the week and work out where we’re going to win the game.”
The Crows will hold an open training session from about 9am Wednesday at Max Basheer Reserve.
Members and supporters are encouraged to take advantage of the school holidays and head out to training, where they can see the players up close and get autographs.
Players will also be signing copies of the new Crows Foundation cookbook, ‘Crows Kitchen - No Rules’, which can be purchased from Crowmania or at Foodland stores for $14.95.
The Club’s main training session will be on Thursday and is closed.
