Melbourne-based full forward Sarah Perkins has joined Adelaide as its second free agent for the 2017 AFL Women’s Competition.
Perkins has had a significant impact in the Victorian Women’s Football League during the past eight seasons playing at full forward and in the ruck for the Eastern Devils.
The 23-year old was selected in the 2016 VWFL Team of the Year after she kicked 52 goals during the past season, making her the third highest leading goalkicker across the competition.
Earlier this year the two-time Victorian Under-18 representative played for Melbourne in an AFL women’s exhibition game.
Perkins has signed with the Crows under the Free Agency rules which provide an opportunity for those athletes who were not picked up in the Draft.
Her signing means just one spot remains to be finalised on the Crows’ inaugural list, with the Club to select one more free agent prior to October 31 to finalise its squad of 27.
Crows Senior Coach Bec Goddard said she was excited about the impact Perkins would have on the Crows’ forward line.
“Sarah has a brilliant long and accurate kick which makes her dangerous anywhere in the forward 50,” Goddard said.
“She has great strength and strong hands, making her one of the country’s elite contested marks.
“She is also a top performer in big games and can play in the ruck if required so she’s sure to be a great asset to the team.”
Perkins will move to Adelaide for the start of the women’s pre-season on November 21.
