Crows defender Brodie Smith will be monitored in the lead-up to Friday night’s crucial clash with West Coast.
Smith, 24, was concussed early in the second quarter of Showdown XLI and took no further part in the game. The injury occurred when the 2014 All Australian fell backwards in a marking contest, and his head struck the boot of Port Adelaide forward Aaron Young.
General Manager of High Performance Brett Burton said Smith, who has played every game so far this season, was in good spirits.
“Brodie’s going through the normal concussion protocol at the moment and will do so for the rest of the week,” Burton said.
“The good signs were that he was up and about after the game feeling fairly good. We’ll continue to assess him as the week goes on and make a call (on his availability) later in the week.”
Wingman Paul Seedsman is also listed as a ‘test’ as he recovers from a nasty corked buttock.
Seedsman, who has missed the past two matches, sustained the injury in Adelaide’s Round 20 win over the Brisbane Lions. Burton said the injury was taking longer than expected to heal.
“Seeds is struggling a little bit with that corked buttock. He’s had a fair bit of bleeding in the area, so we’re just waiting for that to drain,” Burton said.
“He’ll be assessed during the week and we’ll confirm (his availability) later in the week.”
Rookie-listed defender Alex Keath will be sidelined for up to a month after injuring his back in Adelaide’s SANFL win over Norwood in Round 20.
“Alex copped a knock to the back last week in the SANFL game,” Burton said.
“Scans have revealed he has a fractured transverse process (vertebrae).
“It’s quite a nasty injury, so he’ll be out for the next 3 – 4 weeks.”
The SANFL Crows reported no new injuries in Berri on Sunday.
Forward Keenan Ramsey (ankle) is hoping to complete training this week and be fit to play against South Adelaide. Luke Lowden, who is also recovering from an ankle injury, will miss at least another fortnight.
Sam Shaw has been placed on the long-term injury list as he recovers from concussion-related symptoms.
