Adelaide and Collingwood have met 39 times. The Magpies hold a commanding overall lead, 25 – 14.
However, the Crows have won the past three clashes between the two teams.
The biggest home-and-away crowd for a game featuring these two teams was 54,790 at the MCG in Round 16, 2013.
The biggest turnout for a Crows v Collingwood match in South Australia was 50,051 at Adelaide Oval in Round Nine, 2014. On that night, Taylor Walker made his long-awaited return from a knee injury, Charlie Cameron debuted and the noise was so great the siren couldn’t be heard after Josh Jenkins kicked a goal.
The Crows will be looking for their eighth straight win, while the Pies have won three consecutive games including a come-from-behind victory over top-eight team Greater Western Sydney at Spotless Stadium last weekend.
Adelaide champion Scott Thompson is set to become only the 75th player in VFL/AFL history to reach the 300-game milestone on Saturday night. Get more Thommo stats
The Crows have a good recent record in Thompson’s milestone matches. His 100th AFL game was a win over Hawthorn in Round 14, 2007. Adelaide got the four points in his 200th AFL game against the Western Bulldogs in Round Two, 2012. His 250th AFL game was also a win over Greater Western Sydney in Round Five, 2014.
However, the prolific midfielder’s 150th AFL game was a loss – to Collingwood. Geelong also beat Adelaide in Thompson’s 50th AFL game in Round 12, 2005.
Eddie Betts needs five more goals to reach 450 career goals since his AFL debut in 2005.
Taylor Walker (291 goals) needs one more to draw level with Crows legend Mark Ricciuto (292 goals) in second spot in the Club’s all-time leading goalkicking.
The Pies are one of the form teams of the competition. Over the last month, Collingwood ranks No.1 for time in possession and third in total disposals. They also have the fourth-best kicking efficiency over this period.
Boom Pies recruit Adam Treloar is ranked fifth in the AFL for total disposals (451) this season. Treloar is also equal-second in handball receives (209).
Treloar sits level with Betts on 16 goal assists for the season – ranked fifth. Crows captain Taylor Walker leads the way with 20, while teammate Josh Jenkins has 17.
Defender Ben Reid is fifth in the League for marks despite having missed two games. The rebounding Reid also ranks third in marks from opposition kicks (43).
Since Round 11, young Crows defender Jake Lever is the third-ranked intercept player (possession gains) in the AFL behind Sydney Swans defender Dane Rampe and Melbourne backman Tom McDonald.
Magpies midfielder Levi Greenwood has laid 104 tackles – ranked sixth in the competition. In-form Crow Rory Sloane is second overall (115).
Sloane had 30 possessions, nine clearances and four tackles last time these two teams met in April, 2015.
Collingwood ruckman Brodie Grundy has collected more disposals (247) than any other ruckman. Grundy has also kicked 10 goals.
The Pies average 75.2 tackles per game – ranked third among all teams this season.
Wingman Steele Sidebottom has averaged 27 possessions, seven marks and four tackles in his last seven games against Adelaide.
If selected, Crows recruit Paul Seedsman will play his first game against his former club. Seedsman played 49 matches for the Magpies before joining Adelaide at the end of last season.
Dangerous forward Alex Fasolo leads Collingwood’s goalkicking with 24. Fasolo is under an injury cloud this week because of a shoulder complaint.
The Pies have used 38 players this season – the equal-most of any team in the League. The Crows have called upon the fewest players (27).
