The ‘Rory story’ continues in AFL Media’s Team of the Week with Rory Sloane and Rory Laird both recognised for their Round Six performances.
Rory Sloane was named rover in the Team of the Week after a best-on-ground effort against Fremantle on Saturday. He collected a season-best 31 possessions, laid eight tackles, took seven marks and kicked a goal in an inspiring display at Adelaide Oval.
The 2013 Club Champion has enjoyed a stellar start to the 2016 season. He’s second at the Crows for hard-ball gets, tackles and contested possessions and also ranks third at the Club in clearances.
Sloane is Adelaide’s leader in the AFL Coaches Association Champion Player of the Year award, but last round marked the midfielder’s first nomination in the AFL’s Team of the Week.
Rory Laird earned his third appearance in the team from six attempts.
The courageous Crow was again named in a back pocket after amassing 24 disposals at 88 per cent efficiency against the Dockers along with five marks and four rebound 50ms.
After coming close to his maiden All Australian selection last season, Laird has continued his solid form into 2016. He leads Adelaide for marks, is second for disposals and rebound 50ms, and ranks fourth for hard-ball gets.
Sloane and Laird continued a recent ‘Rory’ trend in the AFL’s Team of the Week, with Rory Atkins the only Crow to feature in last week’s side. Laird (twice), Scott Thompson, Josh Jenkins, Tom Lynch and Eddie Betts are the other Crows who have made the team through the opening six rounds of the season.
Adelaide was among six clubs to have multiple players feature in the Round Six Team of the Week. Greater Western Sydney led the way with six representatives after their stirring win over Hawthorn ahead of Sydney with three players. The Crows, Kangaroos, Eagles and Cats all had two representatives.
