Gold Coast could welcome back triple talls Dan Currie, Peter Wright and Rory Thompson for Saturday’s clash with Adelaide at Metricon Stadium.
Currie, 27, missed last week’s loss to Greater Western Sydney with a hip complaint while tall forward Peter Wright was also forced onto the sidelines with a tight calf.
Rory Thompson, who hasn’t played since Round Three, also appears set to resume from an ankle concern.
Gold Coast GM Football Operations Marcus Ashcroft said the trio could be in the selection mix if they can get through Thursday’s main training session.
“Obviously Dan Currie missed last week, only missing the one week so he’ll come into calculations,” Ashcroft said.
“Rory Thompson’s been out for a long while now so hopefully he can get through training on Thursday. He’s a test at this stage but if he gets through that then a decision will be made on whether he plays in the senior team or the reserves team.
“Peter Wright missed last week, just, with a tight calf. You’d think he’d get through training on Thursday and be available to play.”
Rebounding backman Adam Saad has already been ruled out of Saturday’s clash with the Crows after sustaining a hamstring injury during the Suns’ loss to the Giants last weekend.
Gold Coast skipper Gary Ablett and ruckman Tom Nicholls will continue to be assessed after both players sustained concussions in last week’s game. A final decision on their fitness will be made later in the week.
“Both lads are still going through the concussion protocol. We won’t know more until Thursday where it will be definitive,” Ashcroft said.
“So we’ll monitor that and be able to give more of an update once training’s finished on Thursday.”
The Suns are also sweating on the fitness of Aaron Hall (shoulder) and Touk Miller (ankle) ahead of Saturday’s clash at Metricon Stadium.
Danny Stanley suffered a hamstring injury in the NEAFL and won’t be available for a senior recall.
