Tough onballer Scott Thompson has been named in AFL Media’s Team of the Week for the first time this year.
Thompson’s strength was pivotal in Saturday night’s duel against the powerful Sydney Swans midfield. The 33-year-old had 27 possessions, including 10 contested, and laid 10 tackles in the thrilling win at Adelaide Oval.
The two-time Club Champion has enjoyed a stellar start to his 16th AFL season. Thompson is averaging 29 disposals per game and is currently ranked among the elite of the competition for tackles (equal-fourth) and clearances (equal-sixth).
The experts at AFL Media rewarded Thompson’s performance in his 250th Crows game by naming him as ruck/rover in the Round Four Team of the Week.
Coaches’ votes: Rory earns glory
The midfielder was the only Crow to be named in this week’s side. Melbourne and North Melbourne led the way with three representatives each, while the Western Bulldogs and Adelaide’s opponent last round in Sydney both had two players included.
Rory Sloane and four-goal hero Eddie Betts could consider themselves unlucky to be overlooked in this week’s team.
Josh Jenkins, Rory Laird (twice), Tom Lynch and Betts are the other Crows who have made the AFL’s Team of the Week through the opening four rounds.
