Crows development player Matthew Spencely has won the SANFL’s Star Search award for Round 13.
Spencely, 20, was Adelaide’s best player in the Club’s clash with Central District on Saturday afternoon.
He amassed a season-high 28 disposals, including 10 contested possessions. Spencely also took six marks and won three clearances.
The former South Adelaide junior was particularly damaging up forward, booting two goals and sending the ball inside 50 six times.
Spencely, from Kangarilla, is one of only four Crows to have played every SANFL match this year, averaging 15 disposals and three marks a game. He’s ranked second behind only skipper Ian Callinan for total possessions (159), inside 50ms (31) and score assists (13) by a Crow this season, and sits fourth for contested possessions (69) and fifth in tackles (32).
The 179cm, 70kg midfielder has played five games with his local club in the Hills Football League this year alongside his Crows commitments. He’s booted 15 goals in his first season with Kangarilla, including a bag of eight against Sedan Cambrai.

Spencely is Adelaide’s first SANFL Star Search nominee this year, and is just the second Crow to receive the award since the Club’s entry into the local competition last season.
Gene Robinson earned a nomination in Round 11, 2014, while current Crows Rory Laird, Luke Brown, Mitch Grigg and development players Luke Carey, Brock Castree and Sam Pfeiffer have all been previously nominated while representing other SANFL teams.
To be eligible, nominees must be 21 years old or younger on January 1, 2015. Nominees must have played no more than eight State League games at the start of the season. AFL rookies remain eligible for the award unless promoted to the senior list of their club. AFL-listed players and suspended players are ineligible for nomination.
