Crows midfielder Mitch Grigg is not your regular AFL footballer.
Instead of resting on his days off, he prefers to flex his muscles, working as a landscape gardener.
For the past two years Grigg has been working for Stringybark Landscaping and, when he is not at the football club, his days start at 7:00am and finish at 4:00pm.
While hard at work at a job in Mount Barker, Grigg told The Crows Show landscaping suited his personality.
“I’ve always been a bit of an outside person,” Grigg said.
“I’m not really one to sit inside and sit around watching TV or a movie or whatever.
“I feel like it (the work) actually helps me a bit with my body, I don’t seize up as much during the day off by sitting around doing not much.”
Grigg said the job was something he could definitely see himself doing once he has finished playing football.
“The best thing about landscaping is coming into something the client or whoever you may be doing it for isn’t happy with and then leaving it looking amazing and something that really puts a smile the people you’re working for’s face,” he said.
“That’s what I get out of it the most.”
For now though, Grigg is determined to win his spot back in the AFL team.
After a strong start to 2015, an ankle injury halfway through the year saw him finish the season in the SANFL.
The tough onballer ended up being the Club’s leading Magarey Medal vote winner, however, the Crows senior midfield is a tough group to break into.
“Magarey votes don’t really get you a spot in the side,” Grigg said.
“I’m just worried about playing my role for the team…I’ve just got to keep working on my defensive transition, running both ways and running at speed.”
