For the third time, Adelaide will carry pick No. 45 into the National Draft, with the Crows previously selecting Scott Hodges (1995) and Sam Shaw (2009).

Hodges was an inaugural Crow, however he quit the AFL at the end of 1993 and was drafted by Adelaide two years later with pick No. 45.

He kicked 100 goals in just 34 appearances.

Several gems have been unearthed with the pick across the AFL, including premiership players Matthew Scarlett, Stuart Dew and Gary Moorcroft, as well as Carlton stalwart Kade Simpson.

A 1997 father-son selection, Scarlett featured in all three of Geelong’s 2000s premierships, was a six-time All Australian (2003-04, 2007-09, 2011) and was inducted into the AFL Hall of Fame.

The Geelong defender finished his career in 2012 after playing 284 games.

Dew was an inaugural member of Port Adelaide’s AFL list, their 2002 leading goalkicker and a 2004 premiership player with the Power.

He retired after 180 games, but after a year on the sidelines decided to make a comeback and nominated for the 2007 National Draft.

Hawthorn drafted Dew with pick No. 45 and in 2008 he won his second premiership with his second AFL team.

Drafted in 1994, Moorcroft picked up the 2000 premiership with the Bombers, playing 98 games.

Ranked third all-time for games at Carlton (325), Simpson will play his 18th season for the Blues in 2020 and is the last remaining player from the 2002 National Draft.

He was Carlton’s best and fairest in 2013 and is one of five active players drafted with pick No. 45, alongside Brendon Ah Chee (2011) and James Worpel (2017).
