Geelong captain Joel Selwood has predicted his brother Scott will get the job of trying to negate the influence of Adelaide's "fire-starter" Rory Sloane in Friday night's clash at Simonds Stadium.

Sloane, averaging 27 disposals a game in 2017, has had limited impact when subjected to a hard tag at times this season.

Speaking on RSN927 radio on Tuesday morning, Selwood said his hard-tackling sibling would spend time manning the Crows' star playmaker.

"I think he'll have him at stages throughout the game, Scotty; (Sloane) has been in some great form this year," Selwood said.

"I did watch bits of him on the weekend and he was getting sat on heavily early and still finding a way.

"He is the fire-starter for them, he's been playing some great footy, and we will need to make sure we calm his influence."

The match-up looms as a fierce one, as Sloane and Selwood are two of the AFL's best tacklers.

The Adelaide vice-captain is the competition's most prolific tackler this season with 91, while Selwood has laid a remarkable 34 tackles in his two games back from a pre-season toe injury.

In high praise, the Cats skipper compared his brother's impact on the side to that premiership captain Cameron Ling provided during the club's flag-winning seasons of the past decade.

"(Scott) is a tackling machine, but he'd probably like to win a bit more half contests himself," Selwood said.

"He has been doing a good job the last couple of weeks, since he's had a job to do and he's done it really well.

"It's nice to have that pillar in there – a bit like Lingy back in the day – to have that guy that goes someone."
