Jack Gunston was one of the best players afield in Central District’s 26-point win over West Adelaide on Saturday.
Names as an emergency for the Crows on Friday night, Gunston played a forward target and kicked five goals from 17 possessions and 11 marks.
Aidan Riley was high in Sturt’s best, collecting 23 disposals at half back and in the midfield. His kicking was a feature of his game.
Chris Knights, back with the Eagles for the first time this season after two weeks out with a calf injury, started slowly but worked his way into the game. He finished with 18 possessions and kicked two goals.
Luke Thompson also played well for the Eagles, good disposal and run from defence the feature of his 20-possession game.
Brodie Martin (18 possessions) started strongly for Sturt but had less influence later in the game.
Myke Cook (12 possessions) played at half back for South in its win over Sturt and was better in the second half. Shaun McKernan rolled an ankle early in the game.
Young ruckman James Craig, dogged by hamstring issues in his two years at the Club, played his first game for 2011 in the reserves as a guest with South. He survived a half and had six possessions.
Rookie Jake von Bertouch kicked three goals for the Eagles’ reserves and Will Young struggled to get into the game as a forward with Norwood.
North, Glenelg and Port had byes.
