Crows defender Heather Anderson is instantly recognisable on the footy field because of the pink helmet she wears to help her vision impaired mum to see her.
But for Saturday’s game against Melbourne at TIO Stadium in Darwin, she’ll be a little harder to spot.
Anderson is trading her signature pink head gear for a camouflage version to help raise awareness and funds for a cause close to her heart.
The switch in head gear is for ‘Soldier On’ which provides support to help aid the recovery of those who have served our country.
A medic with the Australian Defence Force, the 22-year-old has a strong understanding of the impact that mental and physical wounds have on serving members, veterans and their families.
“Soldier On is a fantastic organisation which provides much needed support to assist those who have served our country,” Anderson said.
“My goal is to raise awareness of the prevalence of mental health issues within the military to the wider community, with the hope to diminish the stigma surrounding it, as well as raise funds to support individuals with their recovery.
“I suppose my pink helmet has made me a bit recognisable to people and I thought changing it for a game would be a good way to further raise awareness.
“As entry to our games is free, I encourage those attending or even those who aren’t to make a small donation to show support for those who have served our country.
“No matter how small any donation would be very much appreciated.”
