Taylor Walker says he’s proud to be reappointed captain as Adelaide continues its quest for a third AFL premiership.
On Wednesday, Walker was unveiled as skipper for a fourth-consecutive season.
Midfielder Rory Sloane retained the vice-captaincy, with forward Tom Lynch and reigning Club Champion Matt Crouch rounding out the streamlined senior leadership group.
Twice voted by his peers as the League’s best captain, Walker was looking forward to the season ahead.
“I feel like there’s a lot of unfinished business for our footy club,” he said.
“I’m honoured to be in this position (captain) again and super proud.
“I know I’ve got guys beside me in our leadership group that will help us get what we want, and that’s a premiership.”
Crouch, 22, has been voted into the senior leadership group for the first time.
Walker said the All Australian had displayed maturity beyond his 72 games of experience.
“I’m pretty close to Matt, personally, and it’s great recognition for him,” he said.
“He’s had a real consistent last two years … winning the best and fairest last year. I’ve seen him progress into a young man.
“He’s got the ability to perform game day which is No.1 for our leaders.
“Now, it’s (recognition of) his ability to make people better and also challenge others to live our footy club trademarks.”
Crouch said he looked forward to learning from established leaders in Walker, Sloane and Lynch.
“It’s a big honour to be put in there (the leadership group),” Crouch said.
“I feel like I’ve made some steps in that area to become a better leader. I feel I can make a difference to the Club, and I’m pretty confident going forward that I can continue to play well.
“That’s the main part of leadership, to lead by example.”
Sloane has been a member of Adelaide’s leadership group since 2012.
Walker said the All Australian and two-time Club Champion was a respected leader.
“Everyone knows what Sloaney is like,” he said.
“He lives our trademarks. He challenges and rewards others.
“He’s one of those people you love being around.
“He’s a super human and I love that I’ve got him right beside me."
Lynch is entering his second season in an official leadership role.
Walker said the key Crow’s care for others was his best attribute.
“Lynchy demands excellence from others, but he’s also like a big (teddy) bear,” he said.
“Everyone loves him and he loves everyone.”
