Adelaide have had four players named in AFL Media’s round five AFLW team of the week following the side’s 35 point win over Carlton at Norwood Oval.

Co-captain Chelsea Randall has been selected for the fourth time in five games after another stellar display in defence.  Randall had 15 disposals and laid seven tackles in typical fashion, with her efforts resulting in her being nominated for the Round Five AFLW MVP of the Week.

First-year forward Ruth Wallace has broken through for her first selection of the season.  Wallace kicked a game-high three goals against the Blues, including the opening two majors of the game and the game-sealer in the final term, to prove a handful whenever the ball entered the Crows’ forward line. 

The 25-year-old is currently sitting fourth on the competition goal kicking table with six majors for the season.

Exciting small forward Eloise Jones was rewarded for her electric two-goal effort with her maiden team of the week selection.  Jones converted a second-quarter set shot goal when the game was in the balance, before following up with a crowd-pleasing major from the pocket a short time later. 

The 19-year old, selected with the Crows’ third pick in the 2017 AFLW Draft, received this week’s AFLW Rising Star nomination alongside Blue Breann Moody.

Tough midfielder Ebony Marinoff has been named for the third-consecutive week, after gathering 16 disposals (10 contested), laying six tackles and racking up four rebound-50s in Saturday’s win.

The Crows, who take on Fremantle at TIO Stadium in the Northern Territory on Friday night, must win their next two home-and-away matches to remain a chance of defending their 2017 AFLW Premiership.

The team is selected to mirror the All Australian format: five defenders, six midfielders (including a ruck), five forwards and five interchange players.

Like the All Australian team, we have selected players in general categories, rather than in traditional positions. The 16-a-side set-up often means teams play with differing configurations, making set selections (for example, wings and flanks) difficult.
