ADELAIDE defender Rory Laird remembers his last Showdown experience all too well.

The young defender missed his club's round two 54-point failure against Port Adelaide, but had a front row seat to Chad Wingard's match-winning goal in round 19 last year.

When Angus Monfries centred the ball from the boundary with a minute remaining, Laird was only a metre away from Wingard as he rose to take a clutch mark before slotting the goal. Laird said the moment was still raw.

"It was pretty disappointing last year with that result when we thought we could have gotten over the line – it has sat in my gut, personally," Laird said.

"As a team, the last one that we played also wasn't a good result, so we'll be looking to amend that."

Adelaide could make several changes to the side that lost to Essendon last weekend, with superb performances in the SANFL from Matt Crouch and Tom Lynch in his first game back from a broken jaw.

Ricky Henderson is another who could find his way into the senior line up despite suffering a corked hip in his comeback from a broken leg.

Henderson trained on Wednesday and Laird said it would provide the group with a morale boost if coach Brenton Sanderson picked him for Sunday's Showdown.

"There was a fair few of us out there training [when Henderson broke his leg] -it's really good just to see him back," he said.

"If he plays this week, awesome, and if he doesn't I'm sure he'll be back definitely soon.

"He's a really important player and showed it last year with his versatility and his rebounding."

David Mackay didn't train on Wednesday as he battles to overcome a concussion suffered against Essendon.

He'll undergo a concussion test late in the week which could determine whether he plays against the Power.
