Adelaide midfielder Bryce Gibbs has been found not guilty of rough conduct against Geelong’s Joel Selwood by the AFL Tribunal on Tuesday.
Gibbs was contesting his $3000 fine from an incident in the first quarter of Thursday’s clash, where Selwood was felled off the ball.
Representative Andrew Culshaw argued the force wasn’t sufficient for the charge and the incident wasn’t a bump in the real sense of the term, and that Selwood initiated the contact by leaning forward and putting his head in an unnaturally low position.
During the hearing, Gibbs indicated he was merely bracing for contact as he ran to his position and if he was electing to bump, he would have lowered his centre of gravity and delivered it with more force.
The Tribunal jury of David Jones (chairman), Wayne Henwood, Michael Jamison and Jason Johnson deliberated for 13 minutes before handing down the not guilty verdict.
After the verdict was delivered, Gibbs said he was 'very happy' with the result.
"Andrew put a great case together, a great hearing," Gibbs told media in Adelaide on Tuesday evening after the hearing.
"Although I wasn't going to be missing any weeks I certainly didn't think I did anything wrong and that was proven tonight.
"I didn't think I was guilty of any rough conduct charges and that's how it played out, so I'm very happy."
