Jackson Edwards will return to Gliderol Stadium this Saturday when the SANFL Crows take on his former club, Glenelg.
Son of 300-gamer Tyson, Edwards played four senior games for Glenelg in 2017 before he was recruited to Adelaide as a father-son selection in the Rookie Draft last year.
Stepping onto the familiar field is something that excites Edwards.
“There will be a little bit of banter out on the field, but I am looking forward to getting back down to Glenelg,” Edwards said.
“They’ve got a new coach so it’s going to be a little bit different, but they’re a good team and we’ll just have to put up our best footy.
“They’ve got a pretty strong midfield, so I bet they’ll be good in the contest and we’ve got to try match them.”
So far in 2018, Edwards has played all six games of the SANFL season and has consistently been around the top-three disposal getters for Adelaide.
His best game for the season was in Round Four against Central District, where he collected 23 possessions (nine contested), six clearances and three tackles.
Edwards said he’d settled in well with his new team.
“I’ve probably been a little bit inconsistent. I would always like a bit more of the footy, but that is everyone,” Edwards said.
“I’m enjoying playing with a new group of boys, they have been great and really welcoming.
“I’m just loving the elite environment, it’s another step up which is what I’m after.”
Transition out of the stoppage has been Edwards’ focus during the 2018 season.
“I don’t have the greatest leg speed, so the transition and trying to be quicker than other blokes has been a big focus area for me,” he said.
Playing alongside his cousin and fellow father-son recruit Ben Jarman has also been a highlight.
“It’s been good, we feed each other the ball a bit and he’s playing some good footy at the moment as well,” Edwards said.
“It’s been good to have Ben in my corner, someone I know from the very start has been helpful.”
Adelaide’s Round Seven match against Glenelg gets underway at 2.10pm on Saturday afternoon.
