Adelaide were on the hunt for youth and speed at the selection table this week ahead of the second game of the SANFLW Showdown exhibition series on Sunday.
Zoe Prowse (Sturt) and Laitiah Huynh (Central District) are two talented youngsters who have been added to the side set to take on Port Adelaide.
Prowse is part of the Under-16 State program while Huynh was on the Gold Coast last week for the Under-18 National Championships.
Ashleigh Woodland (North Adelaide), who came off Melbourne’s list at the end of the 2019 AFLW season, will bring extra experience to the Crows line-up for game two.
The exhibition series features the best SANFLW talent, with Adelaide’s side featuring players from Sturt, Glenelg, North Adelaide and Central District.
Port Adelaide has members from Norwood, South Adelaide, West Adelaide and Woodville-West Torrens.
KIANA'S DREAM: Optus Crows Cup helping young footballers
Since the first match – a narrow loss against Port – the team has been given a taste of what it’s like to train in an elite environment.
Crows coach and AFLW vice-captain Courtney Cramey said the aim was to provide the players with a full AFLW experience.
“Last week, we had them in at the Club, exposing them to the Shed Floor with the gym area and took them through their weights program with the high-performance staff,” Cramey said.
“They had access to full recovery facilities, heard from nutrition specialists and also did a yoga session.
“We’ve exposed them to the structure of an AFLW training program which we are hoping to see the benefits of come game two.”
Cramey is looking forward to seeing the girls get another opportunity to show their talent.
“They are the cream of the crop of the SANFLW, which is a fantastic competition, so they should just be proud in being able to represent their clubs under the Crows banner in this exhibition series,” she said.
“It is another opportunity for them to showcase their skills amongst the best and for them to get out there and enjoy doing that.”
The game at Alberton Oval will get underway at 11.55am on Sunday, as the curtain raiser to the Port and Glenelg SANFL match.
