Superstar small forward, father of four and two-time children’s book author… Life can get busy when you’re Eddie Betts.
Earlier this week, the 32-year-old visited Tea Tree Gully library to give a reading of his new book and sign autographs.
My People, the second book from Betts after My Kind, addresses important issues including bullying and looking after the environment.
“I still don’t believe that I’ve written a book, let alone two children’s books,” Betts said.
“We wanted kids to see themselves in the book to see the important messages.
“We found that there’s not much of Aboriginal culture taught in schools at a young age.”

Betts has worked with a production team - which includes former Sydney and Collingwood forward Jesse White - to complete the book.
“It was pretty cool to write a book about Aboriginal culture,” Betts said.
“We’re talking about Aboriginal culture, our flag, how many years we’ve been here, our spirituality, how we’ve lived and thrived off the land for over 60,000 years.”

Now with two titles in the Eddie’s Little Homies series, Betts has eyes sight on a third.
“My son Lewis asked ‘can the next book be about sport?’,” Betts said.
“We’re thinking, we’re going to have to come up with some ideas around sport (now).”
Betts revealed the ultimate goal was to create a cartoon series based on his books.
