Adelaide co-captain Taylor Walker wants to keep the AFL Grand Final in its regular 2.30pm time slot.

Last week, AFL Commission chairman Richard Goyder raised the idea of moving the Grand Final to the twilight time slot (usually 4.35pm) and said the majority of AFL captains backed the idea.

Speaking on Triple M this week, Walker said he was in favour of sticking with tradition.

“There might have been a survey, I would have said to keep it in the day time,” Walker said.

The debate to change the Grand Final time slot has resurfaced regularly over the past few years, often with suggestions of a night time game.

“The added bonus he (Goyder) said we get is you’ve got the night time to have the entertainment,” former Crows captain and Roo And Ditts host Mark Ricciuto explained.

“Then you can have a great game followed by great entertainment, is what he’s trying to say.”

During his weekly chat on Triple M, Walker also discussed the Crows final pre-season game against Greater Western Sydney in Canberra.

“It was a good little win for us heading into Round One against Hawthorn,” Walker said.

“Our pressure was really good for three quarters and then the last was typical JLT, (which) I’m not worried about.”

Given Adelaide’s short injury list, spots in the Round One side will be hotly contested.

One player Walker believes could earn a call-up is first-round draft pick Chayce Jones. 

“He’s a great kid and he’s nearly picked himself for round one,” Walker said.

“It’s going to be tough for Pykey and the coaches to pick a team to play Hawthorn.”
