A new club, an old teammate and the start of fatherhood - life has moved fast for former Crow Kyle Cheney.
The 29-year-old was delisted by the Crows at the end of 2018 but elected to stay in South Australia despite his Victorian roots.
“I’ve still got a brother who plays at Warracknabeal and a lot of close mates there,” Cheney told The Crows Show, brought to you by Optus.
“One of my best mates actually coaches the side, so the lure to head back there was something I thought about.”
Ultimately, Cheney had one major factor that made the decision “pretty easy”.
“My wife and I are expecting our first child, that’s about six weeks away now,” he said.
“With the pending child, we thought a little bit of continuity staying in the state (would be ideal).”

Cheney’s love for football hasn’t disappeared - he now plays with fellow former Crow Matthew Jaensch for the Hahndorf Magpies.
With the pressure off his back, Cheney says he’s enjoying the social element of the competition.
“I’m a country boy (so) I’m loving coming down here,” he said.
“The atmosphere, the country feel around it, we actually have a beer after the game and enjoy each other’s company which is good.
“He (Jaensch) did the work to get me here… we’ve won every game, most by a pretty decent margin.”
Now working as a real estate agent in Unley, Cheney says he has nothing but fond memories from his AFL days.
