Former Crow Greg Anderson has been inducted into the South Australian Football Hall of Fame.

Anderson played 59 games for the Crows between 1993 and 1996 after returning to South Australia following 103 games for Essendon.

The left-foot wingman, with one of football’s most recognisable haircuts, also played 150 SANFL games for Port Adelaide.

The two-time All-Australian described the Hall of Fame announcement at Monday night’s Magarey Medal count as a “really nice surprise”.

“It’s certainly a surprise, I feel really honoured,” Anderson said.

He won the Magarey Medal in 1986 and played in two Port Adelaide premierships in 1995 and 1996, as well as coaching South Adelaide for four seasons.

The 53-year-old father-of-four said playing for the Crows was a “wonderful opportunity”.

“I was a very proud South Australian, it was a great thrill, I loved it,” Anderson said.

“Back then it was one team, one town, and you were representing your State every week.

“The Club was new and to be part of that was really special.

“The players I played with, Rehn, McDermott, Jarman, Hall, Jameson, Pittman, Hart and Smart, they were fantastic players and great friends.

“I just had such a wonderful time at the footy club … so many close friends who I speak to weekly.”
