The Adelaide Football Club is farewelling seven of its players as the AFLW Trade and Signing Period comes to a close.
2017 premiership players Sarah Perkins and Sally Riley, along with Rheanne Lugg and Katelyn Rosenzweig, have not been offered contracts for the 2020 season.
Crows General Manager of Football Administration Phil Harper said the strength of the Club’s list meant difficult decisions had to be made.
“We would sincerely like to thank Sally, Sarah, Rheanne and Katelyn for their contributions to our Club,” Harper said.
“These decisions are made even more difficult when you’re dealing with such high-quality people.”
“Sally and Sarah are part of history as members of our inaugural squad and premiership and both have played significant roles in the success of our women’s program both on and off the field.
“Rheanne and Katelyn have also been valuable contributors in their time with us.”
Forward Jessica Sedunary will be moving to expansion club St Kilda, while utility Jasmyn Hewett will join fellow expansion club, the Gold Coast Suns.
Harper said their decisions reflected the growing landscape of the competition.
“Jess and Jasmyn have made the decision to accept offers from expansion clubs,” Harper said.
“They were both honest with us about their discussions and while we are disappointed to see them go, we understand the reasons behind their decisions and the evolving nature of the competition.
“We wish them both well.”
Two-time premiership forward Jenna McCormick will also not be on the list next year, as she pursues soccer full time.
Harper said the Club was supportive of her decision.
“As we know, Jenna has been pursuing football and soccer at the elite level for the past three seasons and she has made the decision to focus solely on soccer for the next 18 months,” Harper said.
“Jenna has our full support and we hope she achieves her goals. If Jenna decides to return to AFLW, we’ll welcome her back with open arms.”
These list changes come after eight players re-signed earlier in the week.
With the trade and signing period closing today, the AFL is still going through the approval process and more re-signings are likely to be announced next Tuesday.
