Adelaide Football Club’s commitment to helping develop the next generation of footballers took another step forward with an under-14 Next Generation Academies ‘Showdown’ against Port Adelaide on Tuesday.

The Crows enjoyed a 79-point victory against the Power at Alberton Oval.

Adelaide’s youngsters led at every change, and took a 43-point advantage into half-time, before extending that in the third term by kicking seven-goals-to-none.

The under-14 NGA team was made up of representatives from the Club’s Be a Pro Academies talent-based program and included players from Central District, Glenelg, North Adelaide and Woodville-West Torrens.

The Be a Pro program was launched last year in collaboration with the SANFL, and added to the Club’s talent pathways.

Crows SANFL Skipper Jack Madgen coached the side, and was supported by the Club’s NGA aligned SANFL under-14 coaches.

Central District’s Erwyn Rothe was awarded best-on-ground, white Bulldogs teammate Kobe Menzel kicked five goals. Both are products of the Central District talent program.

The under-14 match followed on from the Crows’ under-16 Academies clash against the Power, which was hosted earlier this month.

The standard of this week’s game once again showcased the high level of development that the SANFL clubs are doing in the pathway space,” SANFL Crows and Academies manager Jarrod Meers said.

“The Adelaide Football Club loves playing a role in assisting the next generation of South Australian football talent.

“With our Be a Pro Program, for an under-14 player to have an elevated experience inside an AFL Club environment is such a wonderful opportunity.”
