Adelaide has injected more speed and agility into its midfield by finalising a trade to secure GWS Giant James Peatling.

The 24-year-old on-baller joins the Crows along with the Giants’ future third and fourth round draft selections, in exchange for Adelaide’s future second round selection.

Peatling has played 45 games for the Giants since being selected in the 2021 mid-season draft. He emerged as a regular at AFL level this season with 19 games, which included both the qualifying and semi-finals.

At 186cm he is a clearance-winning midfielder with a strong defensive mindset, which was on full display in four games this season when he recorded 10+ tackles.

Adelaide GM List Management and Strategy Justin Reid said the Club was thrilled to welcome Peatling who would complement the team nicely.

“James brings a lot of strengths that are important to any team, being his ability to win clearance, run and carry the footy and apply pressure,” Reid said.

“His career has been on a steady progression over the past three seasons and this year he was able to show that with opportunity he can be a consistent high-level midfielder in the competition.

“At age 24 and only 45 games into his career, we believe he is only just scratching the surface of his potential and we are delighted he’s chosen to join our Club as he builds on his own game and we strive to improve.”

Peatling will be reunited with Nick Murray at West Lakes after the pair played together in the Giants Academy and in the NEAFL.

His move to the Crows caps a successful free agency and trade period for the Club with fellow Giant Isaac Cumming signing on as a free agent, and Melbourne premiership forward Alex Neal-Bullen joining the Club via a trade with the Demons.

Adelaide currently holds Pick 4, 64 and 82 ahead of the Telstra AFL Draft which will be held over two days on November 20 and 21. The Pre-Season and Rookie Drafts will be held on November 22.

It also has its first round, three third rounds and two fourth round selections in next year’s draft.
