Crows’ utility Brooke Smith will be sidelined for eight to 10 weeks after fracturing her collarbone on Sunday.

Smith left the ground after being involved in a collision in the last quarter of Adelaide’s win against Essendon and she took no further part in the game.

X-rays on Monday confirmed the injury, and the 20-year-old will consult with a specialist during the week to determine the most appropriate course of treatment.

“The good news is it looks like she may avoid surgery, she will still need to go see a specialist to check that out,” Adelaide Head of Women’s Football Phil Harper said.

“It’s really disappointing for Brooke, she put in a great pre-season and had just found her way into the side.

“It’s a devastating blow for her but we are sure she will rehab it well and be back bigger and better.”

Leadership group member Eloise Jones underwent successful surgery last week and after a period of rest at home will begin rehabilitation.

“Eloise had her surgery, and it went well, she’s stocked up at home now and trying to make the best of it,” Harper said.

“I would think that next week she will be back at the Club, on her scooter, she’s an important leader for us so I expect her to be back scooting around next week being part of our leadership group.”
