South Australians will continue to get a weekly fix of state league footy on free-to-air television after Channel Seven signed a new rights deal.

The SANFL has extended its agreement with Seven for another two years.

As per tradition, Saturday afternoon will remain the primary timeslot for SANFL telecasts until at least the end of 2018.

The SANFL match of the week will be shown on the station's main channel in Adelaide, often as a lead-in to AFL coverage.

"We're thrilled to sign on for a further two years minimum as the SANFL broadcast partner, showcasing the fabulous standard of football and some of the best talent on both SANFL and AFL lists," Seven Adelaide general manager Troy Davidson said in a statement. 

"The Seven Network is committed to an expanding presence in sport and moves into 2017 with new long-term and all-encompassing agreements for coverage of the AFL premiership season, finals series, the Grand Final and Brownlow Medal, the WAFL and importantly, the SANFL, Magarey Medal and Hall of Fame."

The deal includes the option to extend the agreement for another four years beyond 2018, which would bring the timing in line with the new national AFL media rights deal.

Viewership of SANFL matches has increased sharply since moving from the ABC in 2014 and the introduction of Adelaide’s own SANFL side.
