Rory Sloane was Adelaide’s leading possession-getter against Collingwood, racking up 30 touches. Sloane also won a game-high nine clearances (double that of any Pies player), took eight marks and laid four tackles. He had five score assists – ranked No.1 in the AFL for Round Two.
For the second straight week, the Crows had nine different goalkickers. Taylor Walker, Patrick Dangerfield and Tom Lynch each slotted two goals, with singles to Richard Douglas, Brodie Smith, Charlie Cameron, Josh Jenkins, Eddie Betts and Nathan van Berlo.
Collingwood’s score of 9.9 (63) was identical to North Melbourne’s return against the Crows at Adelaide Oval in Round One.
For the second week in a row, Adelaide kept its opponent goalless in a quarter. The Pies didn’t kick their first major until the nine-minute mark of the second term and only had three goals on the board to three-quarter time. The Crows didn’t concede consecutive goals until the final term.
Defender Daniel Talia had a career-high 24 possessions against Collingwood.Talia was also excellent defensively, restricting Pies spearhead Travis Cloke to one goal from nine disposals.
The Crows had more kicks (258) than any other team in Round Two.
Adelaide also topped the competition in marks (126) and uncontested marks (119) on the weekend. In contrast, the Crows only conceded 50 uncontested marks to Collingwood.
Nathan van Berlo laid a team-high eight tackles against the Pies.
The Crows won the clearance count convincingly, 45 – 29.
Ricky Henderson generated more inside 50ms (nine) than any player on the ground at Etihad Stadium.
Of Adelaide’s 30 scoring shots on Saturday, 16 were generated from turnovers.
Wingman Brodie Smith was involved in 12 of his team’s scores– ranked equal-fourth in the League for Round Two. Dangerfield and Sloane each had 11 score involvements.
Matthew Jaensch took an equal-round high 13 marks against the Pies – all 13 were uncontested.
The Crows have now won their past three meetings with the Pies after losing the previous six on the trot.
Sam Jacobs had the most disposals (24) of any ruckman in Round Two. ‘Sauce’ was only one possession-shy of his career-best 25 against GWS in Round Five last season. Jacobs also had 32 hit-outs and nine marks against the Magpies.
Adelaide had an average age of 24.9 years in Round Two – the eighth-youngest for the round. Nathan van Berlo was the Club’s oldest player at age 28.
Brodie Smith gained more metres (633) than any other player at Etihad Stadium on Saturday. Smith had a retention rate of 72.4 per cent – the best of any player ranked in the top five for metres gained in Round Two. Ricky Henderson was just behind with 617 metres at a retention rate of 72 per cent.
