Adelaide forward Taylor Walker has given an honest assessment of his side’s 66-point loss to Hawthorn on Sunday afternoon.
The Crows were outclassed by the Hawks after quarter-time, conceding 13 consecutive goals from midway through the second quarter to the dying stages of the last.
Speaking to Roo, Ditts and Loz on Triple M Adelaide Breakfast, Walker summed it up as a “really poor” performance.
“We were really poor to be honest, we started the game well and got it on the terms we wanted to, and then fell away substantially after that,” Walker said.
“Around the contest was where our downfall came, we just weren’t able to arrest the momentum in that aspect of the game, and when we did get the ball we gave it back to them far too easily.
“Defensively we were also really poor as a group, and that’s one we are going to have to wear.
“We’ve got one month of footy left now, and the focus is finishing off as strongly as we can.”
Reflecting on the match, Walker gave credit to the quality of the Hawks, comparing their game style to one of the competition’s last dynasties.
“I’ll give credit where it’s due, Hawthorn were really good and are in outstanding form, I think they are the most in-form team in the competition,” Walker said.
“The last team I played against that was that good and pressured you into mistakes like the Hawks did on Sunday was Richmond back in 2017.
“That’s the benchmark for us, they were outstanding and we weren’t good enough on the day to match it with them.”
