Adelaide Assistant Coach Scott Burns says players and coaches have already moved on from the Showdown victory, switching their focus to the clash against Brisbane this Sunday.
The Crows enjoyed a 30-point win against Port Adelaide on Thursday night, capping a big week with Club legend Rory Sloane’s retirement, Matt Crouch’s 150th and recruit Dan Curtin’s AFL debut.
Speaking to the media on Monday, Burns said there were plenty of positives to take out of the Showdown win but it was important to turn the focus onto the next match.
“It (the Showdown) was a long time ago now because you move on pretty quickly,” Burns said.
“We’ve come in today and there’s a bit of tidying up we need to do from Thursday night’s game but we are going to be moving on pretty quickly.
“We were reasonably happy with the other night, although Port Adelaide had opportunities, they had a couple of patches in the game where they dominated full position and we probably dodged a few bullets at times.
“But largely, we were quite pleased with the way we played.”
Brisbane will also enter the match with winning form, having beaten Gold Coast on Sunday.
Burns said the Lions would present a tough challenge.
“They were pretty impressive yesterday (against Gold Coast) and they were under a fair bit of duress as well,” Burns said.
“We’ll plan for Brisbane bringing their best and we were lucky enough about three weeks ago to go to Melbourne and we saw them play Melbourne at the MCG and they dominated that game, so we’ve seen them at their best live this year.”
Burns said the win against Port Adelaide was a culmination of some solid form across the past month and the focus would now be on maintaining it.
“The last month has been quite strong… we’ve started to build a bit of momentum over the past month, not just from this one result on Thursday night,” Burns said.
“We are pretty focused on trying to bring that consistent football for the entire game, not just for two or three quarters.
“We are starting to get our game right and the way we want to play.”
Adelaide plays Brisbane at Adelaide Oval on Sunday at 3.30pm.
