ADELAIDE forward Brett Burton is clear to take on Carlton at the Docklands but last weekend’s six-goal hero Jason Porplyzia has a hip complaint and is in doubt.

Burton, 31, hasn’t played since suffering a badly corked buttock in the round-19 loss to Collingwood, but he trained freely on Wednesday and will be available for selection.

Porplyzia missed the Wednesday session but club officials also expect the small forward to play Saturday afternoon.

Adelaide and Carlton will do battle for a home final and onballer Tyson Edwards said the game would be a mini-dress rehearsal for the following week’s elimination final and, potentially, beyond.

“The stakes are pretty high for both sides,” Edwards said on Wednesday.

“We’re playing for the same prize and Carlton is going to be in the finals and so are we. Both teams are going to be at full bore, so I guess it will be a mini-dress rehearsal.”

Earlier this month, Edwards and fellow premiership players Simon Goodwin and Andrew McLeod addressed the players about the importance of making the most of their finals opportunities.

“It [the talk] was just about preparing in the right way and approaching things as best you can because you don’t know when you’re going to get another chance to play in finals,” he said.

“This could be our best chance to win a premiership in the next five years. Who knows what could happen. It was really just about preparing the best you can and trying to get the best out of yourself at the pointy end of the season.”

The Crows have made the eight in each of the past five years, but have not made it onto the grand final stage since 1998.

The club has been bundled out of September in the opening week of the past two seasons, but Edwards said he was confident his side could go further in 2009.

“We’ve made some improvements in certain areas, but we’re not going to know  [how much] until we get into that finals environment again.”
