Former SANFL star Jarrod Cotton has been appointed as the midfield coach of Adelaide’s State League team in a part-time capacity.

Cotton, 37, joins senior coach Heath Younie and development coaches Matthew Clarke, Peter Jonas, Tate Kaesler and Alan Stewart on the Crows’ State League coaching panel.

A member of Port Adelaide’s inaugural AFL squad, Cotton has developed an impressive coaching resume since retiring as a player in 2003.

Most recently, the veteran of 162 SANFL games coached Norwood’s reserves team to a Grand Final (2012) and was an assistant coach of the 2012-13 SANFL State Teams, where he oversaw the forward line. Cotton was an assistant coach of the successful Redlegs league side between 2008 and 2011, and also acted as caretaker senior coach of the club for seven games in ‘09’. He resigned from his position at Norwood early this year,

Coach Heath Younie said Cotton would be a great addition to the State League coaching team.

“Jarrod has an extensive coaching and playing background. He’s experienced the AFL and SANFL systems as a player and, as a coach, he’s been involved with senior and development programs for almost a decade,” Younie said.

“Jarrod is a respected football person and will be a great fit as a coach and mentor to our emerging young midfielders.”

Prior to joining the senior program at Norwood, Cotton was involved in junior programs at the Redlegs (Under-17s), Tea Tree Gully (Under-15s) and with Mt Gravatt (Under-8-18s) and the Southern Bushrangers in Queensland.

Cotton played for three clubs Central District, Norwood and South Adelaide, in his 10-year SANFL career. He also played four AFL games for Port Adelaide and represented South Australia at state level (1996).
