Adelaide small forward Jess Waterhouse says workrate and an improved fitness level is behind their recall to the Crows’ side.
Waterhouse, who is in their second campaign with the Crows, knows how tough it can be to crack into the side, given the strong depth at the Club this year.
And, after missing out on selection in Round One, Waterhouse was then given the call-up for the Round Two clash against Richmond.
Speaking to AFC Media, Waterhouse said they had always prided themselves on their workrate and was determined to take it to another level in 2023.
“It was really good to be back out there with the girls,” Waterhouse said.
“For me, my focus area over the off-season was my fitness and workrate and endurance, like repeat speed.
“It didn’t go my way for Round One but I am happy to work my way back in and work hard for the team in Round Two.
“I pride myself on my workrate and trying to stay connected as a small forward.”
Adelaide is preparing for the unknown of taking on Essendon for the first time in the competition’s history and enters the clash searching for a third, consecutive win.
Waterhouse said the squad was looking forward to the challenge and hoped to continue its good form.
“We are definitely keen to get three from three,” Waterhouse said.
“The hard part of playing a short season is that every game is important and you have to win every one.
“They are a new team, but they’ve started off pretty strong, they’ve had two wins, so they are coming in with a bit of confidence but so are we.
“It will be a good contest and good to start that Crows, Essendon rivalry.”
The Crows will return to Unley Oval for the match and the 25-year-old called on fans to “pack out the oval”.
“The more the better, we can definitely hear our fans from the oval,” Waterhouse said.
“It will be a cracking day, so spend your Saturday with us.”
Adelaide takes on Essendon at Unley Oval on Saturday at 2.35pm.
