Adelaide SANFL Senior Coach Michael Godden is hopeful of regaining ruck Kieran Strachan for the side’s Preliminary Final against Sturt on Sunday.
The Crows take on the Double Blues at Adelaide Oval, in pursuit of a maiden State League Grand Final appearance.
Speaking on Wednesday ahead of the game, Godden said Strachan, who last played in Round 16 against West Adelaide after injuring his wrist, was a chance to be selected.
The side is also set to be boosted by the inclusion of Skipper Matthew Wright, who will return from suspension.
Defender Andrew McPherson, who had been sidelined with a quad injury, would also be looking to prove his fitness ahead of the game.
“Matty obviously will come back from that suspension,” Godden said.
“Kieran and Andrew McPherson are training this week, they trained yesterday, they will also train Thursday and we will see how they come up.
“They are a pretty good chance, I have sort of thought that for a couple of weeks with Kieran and then Andrew is coming off a long-term injury so we will see how he goes.”
Strachan’s absence has forced the Crows to rely on non-traditional rucks, including defender James Borlase, forward Lachlan Gollant, as well as development players Jarman Sigal and Riley Clamp.
“It has been really difficult having Kieran out of the side,” Godden said.
“He’s one of the premier ruckmen in the SANFL and to have anyone like that out of your team hurts.
“We have to readjust every week so we have played midfielders, we have played James (Borlase) there the last couple of weeks but that then robs him from playing in the backline.
“Structurally it would be enormous to get Kieran back.”
This weekend will be the second time Adelaide is facing off against Sturt, having beaten the Double Blues by seven points in the Qualifying Final a fortnight ago.
Godden said the Crows had learnt plenty from the game and would take some confidence heading into this weekend’s do-or-die clash.
“We have played them numerous times, they know us, we know them, I don’t think there will be a whole lot different this time of year,” Godden said.
“You don’t hide too much, it’s just go out and the best team gets it done on the day.
“It usually just comes down to moments, it’s not always a trend it can just be a moment that a team gets ahead of you.”
Adelaide takes on Sturt in a Preliminary Final at Adelaide Oval on Sunday, with the first bounce at 3.15pm.
A win will secure the Crows a spot in their first SANFL Grand Final.
