Adelaide’s new Multicultural Program has been launched this week at two city schools.
Students from St Spyridon College at Unley and St Patrick’s School in Mansfield Park have started six-week programs designed to teach more about Australian Football to children with multicultural backgrounds.
The students are exposed to hands-on activity, learning football skills from the Crows’ community team.
They are also engaged through the classroom, where they find out more about the game and are asked to be creative in creating their own football teams, including a name, logo, colours, guernsey design and more.
They also have the opportunity to build their very own football club where they assign each other roles including team managers and umpires.
As the students’ skills and knowledge improves, the program will introduce match simulation sessions.
Crows Community Programs manager Jason Lehmann said the Multicultural Program was an exciting and important addition to the Club’s programs.
“Many of these kids have not been exposed to Australian Football,” he said. “We hope we can spark their interest in the game and inspire some to dream about playing in the AFL.”
