The Western Bulldogs hope to regain defender Dale Morris for Sunday’s clash with the Crows at Etihad Stadium.
Morris missed the Dogs’ loss to Carlton in Round Five due to suspension, but the 31-year-old has also battled an ankle complaint over the past fortnight.
The veteran Bulldog defender was sorely missed against Carlton, with fellow backmen Tom Williams, Tom Young and Michael Talia struggling to contain the Blues’ tall forwards.
"We've been really protective (of Morris' ankle)," Bulldogs’ coach Brendan McCartney said. "We've had him in a boot all week.
"He was in a boot today. If you saw him, you'd probably say he's no chance, but that's more to protect it.
"We're pretty optimistic he'll play. He's a tough character.”
The Dogs’ backline woes come at an inopportune time for the club, with Adelaide posting monster scores of 136 and 137 points in the Crows’ past two matches.
McCartney said he would back the same defensive group to respond against the Crows if Morris cannot overcome his ankle concern.
“If he doesn't (play), some of those boys that had good moments and horror moments today have just got to butter up and play for us."
