Demmi Plew is the talk of the town in the lead up to Adelaide's Australia Post AFL Community Camp in Berri next week.

The 11-year-old will captain her Berri Primary School year-six class in a match against the Crows next Friday on the school oval.

Demmi’s entry form was drawn on Thursday from more than 600 entries, with the announcement she had won the Adelaide Crows Australia Post AFL Community Camp Primary Schools competition made at school assembly.

Deputy Principal Mrs Maria Vithoulkas said the entire school, which has more than 300 children, was buzzing with excitement.

“We have many, many Crows supporters at the school and we are looking forward to hosting the Crows and giving them a run for their money next Friday,” Mrs Vithoulkas said.

“Demmi had a smile from ear to ear when she walked out of assembly today with fellow students congratulating her and hugging her.

“She is a most deserving winner and she is just so proud that it is because of her that the Crows are coming to our school to play a game against her class.”

Demmi has grown up dabbling in all types of sports, including a stint for local junior AFL club Wunkar, but has settled on netball and recently made one of the local development squads after a strong season at goal defence/attack for the Berri Netball Club last year.

“I am extremely energetic and excited about winning,” Demmi said.

“I can’t believe I am going to be captain of the team and get to toss the coin and shake hands with Nathan van Berlo.

“I hope to start in the forward pocket and sneak a few goals.”

Her mother Elaine Plew is equally thrilled for her daughter as will be her proud pop Ainslie Plew who has been a long-time member at the Club. While older brother Blake will be on his best behaviour for the next week in the hope he can take the day off from Glossop High to watch his sister in action.

The Adelaide Football Club Community Development team has been in the Riverland for the past week presenting the "Crows in Schools" program and handing out entry forms for the “once in a lifetime opportunity” Adelaide Crows Australia Post AFL Community Camp Primary school competition.
