For former Crow Bernie Vince, there was one major factor that drove his 229-game AFL career.

Enjoyment.

The 2009 Best and Fairest winner joined Sauce and Thomo on last week’s edition of The Crows Radio Show, where he re-lived the highs and lows of his football journey.

But when it came to his main motivation for playing the game, he simply said it was all about having fun.

“I think a lot of players, and I think it is more so now, they forget that they grew up playing footy for the fun and enjoyment of it,” Vince said.

“A lot of players I speak to are stressed or frustrated and I always say to them just get back to enjoying your playing footy, because that is why we started.

“That’s all I did throughout my career, just enjoyed myself and tried to be myself and not change into someone I wasn’t.

“I think my footy kind of reflected that, don’t get me wrong I did have to go through plenty of change and growth in my early days to get to the level, but at the end of the day I always came back to being myself and doing things my way.”

Vince was a fan-favourite throughout his seven seasons at West Lakes, before making the shift to Melbourne in 2013, where he played the final 100 games of his career.

He is now a prominent media personality, and features on the Triple M Adelaide Rush Hour with Greg Blewett and Andrew Jarman.
