Adelaide put together an impressive performance to defeat Woodville-West Torrens by 69 points on Sunday afternoon at Woodville Oval.
Adelaide was fast out of the blocks and carried that momentum throughout the game, to prevail 17.9 (111) to 6.6 (42).
Here are the five key takeaways.
First term sets the tone
Adelaide got off to the perfect start, with a dominant first term that allowed it to take control of the contest.
The first quarter was played predominately in Adelaide’s forward half, as the Crows won the inside-50 count 16 to three. The Crows booted seven goals and took a 38-point advantage into the first break.
Woodville-West Torrens had no answer for the Crows’ ball movement, which helped all but secure the result by the first change.
“I thought our first quarter was outstanding,” SANFL Senior Coach Michael Godden said.
“We were really competitive inside and moved the ball really well and defended strongly.”
Gollant bags six
Forward Lachlan Gollant made his presence felt from the opening bounce, booting six goals in a powerful performance.
Gollant was dominant aerially, taking multiple contested marks with his leading patterns inside 50 being on point throughout the afternoon.
“His consistency now over many weeks has been outstanding, not only is he clunking them, but he is finishing really well,” Godden said.
“He’s in really good form and good touch and as we often say he is ready to go when they need him.”
Gollant capped his six-goal outing with nine marks – four contested – and two inside 50s.
Brown leads the way in the middle
On-baller Tyler Brown was a standout contributor for Adelaide against Woodville-West Torrens, impacting the game in a variety of ways.
Brown was influential in the contest, leading the game in clearances with eight, and had an impact up forward, finishing with two goals.
“Tyler has been a really valued member of our team all year and he just keeps putting up good solid performances,” Godden said.
“Sometimes when we have as many midfielders as we have it is not easy so today, he got to step up and play a lot more mid time and he proved what he is capable of.”
Brown amassed with 35 disposals, four inside 50s and four marks.
Soligo overcomes illness
Midfielder Jake Soligo enjoyed a strong performance against the Eagles, winning plenty of the ball, as well as hitting the scoreboard.
Soligo battled throughout the afternoon to leave his mark on the game and Godden was pleased with his performance.
“He nearly didn’t play because he was sick last night and this morning, so he did a tremendous effort to get out there to be honest,” Godden said.
“I think his performance was a really good one.”
Soligo finished with 27 disposals, six marks, four clearances and booted one goal.
Strachan continues strong form
Ruckman Kieran Strachan continued his strong form, with another big performance.
Strachan’s top tap work was on full display again, helping the Crows win the clearance battle 39-24. He was equally as impressive with his work around the ground.
“He is not only an amazing ruckman, but he is great around the ground,” Godden said.
“He is playing at an extremely high level, and he is another one that is certainly ready.”
Strachan finished with 25 disposals, 13 marks – five contested marks – 27 hit-outs, three clearances and a goal.
Adelaide’s next SANFL game will be against Port Adelaide at Adelaide Oval on Saturday afternoon - a curtain raiser to the AFL Showdown - with the first bounce at 3:30pm.
