Adelaide and Greater Western Sydney have battled it out on 16 occasions, with plenty of noteworthy encounters among them.
Here are some of our favourites.
Crows book spot in Prelim – Qualifying Final, 2017
In 2017 Adelaide were crowned Minor Premiers and therefore began its finals campaign playing the Giants with a spot in the Prelim up for grabs.
It was the first time the two sides had met in a final, with the Crows showing why they were the best side of the home and away season putting on a dominant first half display.
After the Giants kicked the first goal of the game, Adelaide responded by firing through the next eight majors along with keeping GWS goalless in the second term to lead by 44-points at half-time.
While GWS responded after the main break, booting the first three goals of the third term, Adelaide responded kicking four of the next five goals to remain firmly in control heading into the last quarter.
The last term was uneventful with 10 scoring shots between the two sides however just one goal was kicked, with Adelaide triumphing by 36-points to be one win away from its first Grand Final berth since 1998.
On-baller Matt Crouch was among Adelaide’s best finishing with 31 disposals, seven tackles and seven inside 50’s, while his brother Brad chipped in with 27 touches, eight tackles and 11 inside 50s.
Lynch kicks 10 – Round Seven, 2013
In Round Seven, 2013 Adelaide recorded its biggest ever win over the Giants, thrashing them by 135-points and in the process recording its fifth biggest margin of victory.
The game was remembered for performance of young Crow Tom Lynch.
He booted 10 goals on the day, becoming just the third Adelaide player at the time to kick double figures in a game – the others being Tony Modra (four times) and Scott Hodges (one time).
The Crows got off to a strong start to take a 25-point advantage into the first break after keeping the Giants goalless in the opening quarter.
Adelaide continued to mount on the scoreboard pressure in the second quarter outscoring GWS 45 to 15.
The Crows did not let up in the third term kicking 11 goals which include a six by Lynch who was playing just his 16thgame of AFL footy.
Adelaide continued to pepper the goals in the last quarter, putting another seven through the big sticks to win 187 versus 52 – the club’s second highest score ever.
Patrick Dangerfield was also impressive amassing 28 disposals, nine marks, 509 metres-gained and booting four goals.
Betts curls through Goal of the Year in Saturday night epic – Round 10, 2016
In Round 10, 2016 the mercurial Eddie Betts stole the show with arguably his greatest ever goal, as the Crows recorded a crucial 22-point win over the Giants.
Former Skipper Taylor Walker got Adelaide off to the perfect start, booting three first term majors to give his side a 17-point lead.
The Giants fought their way back into the game to trail by just two-points at the main break with Adelaide’s inaccuracy costing them, having scored six goals from 17 shots at goal.
In the third term the Crows were able to get the game back on its terms, outscoring GWS 50 to six.
Betts made the third term his own, kicking three which included the 2016 AFL Goal of the Year.
The Crows No. 18 saved the ball from going out of bounds, snuck around two Giants players and snapped it through, as chants of “Eddie” rung around the Adelaide Oval.
The Giants attempted to make a last term comeback, booting the first five goals of the final quarter but the damage was done, with Adelaide ultimately running out 22-point victors.
Both Walker and Betts starred, kicking five goals each, while defender Brodie Smith had his fingerprints all over the game with 26 disposals, eight marks, eight inside 50’s, nine rebound 50’s and 746 metres-gained.
Young Crows hold strong – Round 16, 2020
In Round 16, 2020 Adelaide put on a gallant performance to defeat GWS by 12-points and in the process win its second straight game of the season.
Under first year Senior Coach Matthew Nicks the Crows rallied to take a 14-point quarter time lead, thanks to winning the clearance battle 10 to two.
Despite the Giants threatening throughout the game, the Crows never trailed, showing a constant ability to withstand the pressure of the reigning grand finalist.
The difference maker was Adelaide’s defence which was able to slow the Giants ball movement to only allow 26 inside 50’s compared to the Crows’ 49.
Midfielder Rory Laird was one of the standout contributors, winning 28 disposals, laying 10 tackles and having 18 contested possessions, while forwards Elliott Himmelberg and Shane McAdam both chipped in with two majors each.
It was an impressive win for a young Adelaide side, with eight players having played 25 games or less.
Crows make giant statement – Round One, 2017
In Round One, 2017 Adelaide opened its campaign with a statement win over GWS, prevailing by 56-points.
Adelaide got off to a shaky start, falling behind by 14-points at quarter time but were quick to fix its mistakes, controlling the momentum over the next three terms.
It was in the third quarter where the Crows made their mark, kicking a game-breaking eight goals to hold a 31-point advantage.
Adelaide continued to pile on the goals in the last quarter, booting another seven to celebrate Sam Jacobs’ 150th game with a solid win.
Three-time Club Champion Rory Laird starred with a game-high 40 disposals, six marks and six rebound 50s, while Josh Jenkins had 20 touches, nine marks and booted three goals.
